About Me
I started my first teaching job in late 1996 at Ecoff Elementary School in Chesterfield County, Virginia. I taught third grade for 10 years, served as Lead Technology Teacher, and was selected as Ecoff Elementary School's 2000-2001 Teacher of the Year.
I worked for Richmond Public Schools as an Educational Technology Integrator from 2006 until I retired in June 2023, helping teachers integrate technology into their instruction by providing training and modeling best practices.
As an EdTech Integrator I designed and implemented a wide variety of professional development sessions. Topics included Google Classroom for Beginners, Google Forms for Assessment, G Suite Fundamentals, Google Sites for Teachers, Screencasting and YouTube and Screencasting Best Practices.
I designed and facilitated the asynchronous professional development course Building Digital Skills from 2015 to 2020. In 2019 I managed the working group that created Internetsafety4RPS, a CIPA-compliant digital safety information campaign. I'm particularly proud of RPS@Home (now retired), the district-wide digital learning platform I built in March 2020 to deliver virtual instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications, a Master of Teaching degree and a Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching for K-12 Educators, all from Virginia Commonwealth University.
I have extensive experience with Windows and macOS computers with an emphasis on web development, digital graphics, desktop publishing, podcasting and digital video production.
Decades of providing tech support for friends, family and colleagues sparked my interest in helping as many people as possible improve their personal cybersecurity.
